History of the National Guild of Pearl K. McGown Rug Hookrafters, Inc.
The National Guild of Pearl K. McGown was established in the early 1970’s after Pearl had sold her pattern business to Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, Massachusetts.
At the time, it was established to bring together people who loved Pearl’s designs, to create community, and to have a place to continue educating people about the art of rug hooking. Prior to her death in 1983, Pearl served as the President of the McGown National Guild from 1972 until 1980, and then assumed the role of Honorary President. She appointed her granddaughter, Jane McGown Flynn, Chairman of the Board, starting in 1977. Jane still serves in this role today.
Presidents of the Guild typically serve three-year terms. In order, following Pearl, the past presidents are Gwen Fairfield, Carol Garrity, Sally Ballinger, Helen Connelly, Ramona Maddox, Betty Maley, Vivily Powers (served two consecutive terms), Vicki Calu, Lois Leidahl-Marsh, Donna Swanson, Cyndy Duade, Sue Miniorini, Stacey Van Dyne and Lisa Chaloner.
